Clean Energy Internship

Summary

INF’s paid internships provide an extension of academic programs for students to get involved with ‘all things energy’ in facilities. INF’s project sites, primarily in NYC, are commercial buildings owned/managed by prominent property management firms and financial companies. The intern will gain exposure to Energy Management, supporting projects with analysis and development in the areas of: electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, city steam, and water consumption energy streams, site evaluations and meetings, development of turnkey energy projects, recommissioning, training of site staff, and installation/construction. They will have the opportunity to guide clients through development and implementation in support of their energy and sustainability goals.

Role Description  

    • Support facility engineering assessments, collecting technical data, interviewing building staff for insights into operations & maintenance, and assembling project files with field notes and data.
    • Use technical and industry expertise to identify improvements, commissioning measures, and turnkey energy projects with a complete technical basis and build business cases to present to owners.
    • Advise clients in identifying and scoping efficiency improvements and cost control strategies to align with their capital plans and sustainability goals.
    • Ensure on-time delivery of high quality, detailed, error-free products.
    • Build relationships with contacts from site-level personnel up to senior leadership .
    • Attend client presentations, meetings, and discussions.

Technical Expertise

    • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, renewable energy systems, LED lighting, lighting controls, and other energy-efficient equipment.
    • Leverage metering, monitoring, benchmarking, analytical tools, and software to analyze and provide insight into key areas for facility energy and water consumption.
    • Conduct site audits.
    • Participate in industry events and training programs, webinars, and other opportunities.
    • Knowledge of energy codes, NYC Local Laws, and utility incentive programs.

Collaboration

    • Collaborate with INF teams to deliver cohesive solutions
    • Develop new tools and techniques to improve existing work process and products
    • Support sales and development of new business pursuits
    • Monitor industry trends and evaluate cutting edge technologies and services for potential client application

Skills & Experience Requirements

    • Education/experience in engineering or energy/sustainability management, such as in the following areas:
      • Facility Operations and Management
      • Capital Improvement Projects: Lighting and advanced controls, mechanical, chilled water plants, boiler/steam plants
      • Utility Metering and Analysis
      • Water Conservation, Renewable Energy/Distributed Energy Resources (solar planning/installation/management, CHP, battery storage, ownership models)
    • Detail-oriented, organized, and focused time management.
    • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken).
    • Able to work in cross functional teams, diverse organizations, and managing complex projects and programs.
    • Skilled in using MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint
